Plant Pruning – The Basics

Pruning is a vital part of gardening as you don’t want your plants to overgrow their space and of course, you want them to look their best.

When pruning and buds are visible, do so just above the buds which will prevent leaving a long stem. Make sure to cut the old/dead wood from the base of the plant. This will encourage brand new shoots from the base. If the wood is thick and/or tough, use long-handled toppers.

If you see stems which are growing close together and/or crossing over, then cut one to prevent them rubbing with each other. This will stop any damage to the bark.
