During the summer months, however long you spend doing jobs in the garden there still seems to be tasks that need doing to make sure the garden stays looking tidy and welcoming. The British weather of a mixture of rainy days and sunshine are the ideal growing conditions for not only plants but unfortunately weeds which means that without action the garden can quickly become unkempt.
Mowing the lawn every week rather than leaving it to grow longer so that the grass is kept short will, depending on the size of the lawn, take less time as the grass box will only need to be emptied once or twice. In the same way, regular garden maintenance is much more effective than leaving the garden for ages without attention. A little bit of weeding and cutting back once or twice a week does not seem as much of a task and stops the weeds taking over in areas of the garden. If larger trees and shrubs are pruned back in autumn they will be much more manageable the following summer.
If your time in the garden is limited, perhaps consider having some areas of the garden low maintenance such as covering flower beds with weed matting and forest bark or changing lawned areas for decked surfaces.
