Creating your own bespoke garden design and carrying out the resulting landscaping can be a very rewarding experience and provide a real sense of pride in the finished scheme. As the cost of having a designer and landscaper to work on your garden is high it is certainly worth trying to have a go yourself.
The first thing to do is to think about which features you want in your ideal garden. Do you want a pond or other water feature? Do you need an area that is geared towards children with play equipment? Whatever your needs, decisions need to be made at the planning stage of the project.
Once you are clear in your mind about the garden design you need to think about the larger tasks that will need to be done such as changing levels in the garden, digging ponds and flower beds and installing fencing or building walls. It may be a good idea to hire a mini digger to help with some of these tasks as digging by hand is very hard work.
At the next stage of the landscaping, you will need to think about planting trees, shrubs and flowering plants. A couple of large feature trees such as a eucalyptus with its delicate foliage or an impressive acer can add interest to the garden whilst colourful bedding plants will encourage bees and butterflies to visit.
